Top Tips to Regain those Luscious Locks this Fall

Fall is upon us and it's getting colder.
You look in the mirror and... GASP!  What happened?!
Maybe your locks haven't quite recovered from all of the chlorine, salt and sun of the summer?

We're here to help with our tried and true (and NATURAL!) tips to get your hair back on track and look lustrous through the upcoming holidays:

Load up on Fall Foods
The upcoming holidays will be filled with these two all-time favorites: pumpkin and cranberry. The seeds from these colorful foods produce an oil that is highly antioxidant and anti-inflammatory, protecting follicles against damaging free-radicals. These oils alongside other fall faves such as red grapes, are beginning to appear in more and more hair care products. The benefits of grapes extend beyond wine, as the oil extracted from its seed has been shown to have powerful antioxidant properties as well.

Fill 'er Up!
Now is the time to stay hydrated, folks.  Our schedules are filling up with holiday plans and even worse, holiday foods.  Due to the chilly outdoor temps, we're spending more time indoors which is to blame for the evaporation of moisture from our skin and scalp.  Bottom Line: No matter what time of year, staying hydrated is the single most important thing you can do to keep your hair healthy, shiny, and strong.

It's Okay to Not Wash Every Day
Your hair, that is.  Over washing your hair strips it of the natural oils which moisturize your scalp and protect your hair. Try shampooing every other day or every third day if you can.  If you're blow-drying your hair frequently, try to keep the heat set on 'low' and the nozzle 6-8" from the scalp to save the hair and follicles from damage.

Quality Control
High quality products aren't just for the hair-obsessed, they're good for your scalp!  Using shampoos and conditioners that are rich in natural botanical extracts help to maintain the scalp's pH balance as well as  repair and rejuvenate the follicles which makes it easier for you to transition to washing your hair less often. May we suggest our favorite Aveda products:
            Rosemary Mint
            Dry Remedy
               Scalp Benefits

Take a Healthy Dose
Eating healthy is always encouraged, but adding in a daily hair healthy supplement is something to consider. All of the staff at Jacklin K. swears by the magic of Biotin.  Although there is no recommended daily dose, talk to your doctor before starting any vitamin regimen.  Not into supplements? Take the completely natural route by consuming biotin-rich foods like brewer's yeast, nutritional yeast, liver, cauliflower, salmon, bananas, carrots, egg yolks, sardines, legumes, and mushrooms.

And as always, a little deep conditioning or botanical therapy treatment and a quick trim helps too!
